[074/365] – Helpful Vine

Helpful Vine

Yesterdays snow finally turned into something! Well, not too much. It’s about 4 inches. But it did stick to the branches nicely. The sky is blue, but there is new snow everywhere. So of course I headed out on a nice photowalk. I ended up taking maybe 200 pictures. There were so many that I was proud of, I had a hard time picking one for today.

I really liked this one however, I love how the strangling vine has managed to hold up this leaf. Plus the nice blue background, and snow on the edges, really makes the shot for me. I’m very very happy with this shot.

There was a professional photographer out and about in my little park behind my house this morning! He had an assistant carrying his tripod and many lenses/bodies etc etc. At least I know I’m not the only one drawn to this park!

[073/365] – Snow on a dried ex-flower

Snow on a dried ex-flower

It’s BARELY snowing today, but I had to run out and do some errands like pick up formula for the baby, so I decided to take a photowalk at the same time.

While walking, I met an older Lithuanian man who was 11 years old during WWII. He lived in concentration camps and through that entire ordeal. He has lived an amazing life. He came here to Malden in 1949 and has lived here ever since. He used to work at a textile plant here in MA, making shirts and sweaters for JCPenney. I spoke with him for a good long time, and helped him shovel his sidewalks, then went on my way.

I took this shot right before his house, and I lied the way the snow highlights just one side of the old dried up flower. Also I like that you can see a couple of small streaks from falling snow.

[045/365] – Rainy Cambridge

Rainy CambridgeI did my duty today and voted! *crosses fingers* After work, I met Merri over in Cambridge at Harvard Square to go pick up some cloth diapers. On the way there I noticed this cool fence, so on the way back, I took a few shots. I used my Gorillapod! I took a few 5 second shots, it was simple and awesome! I like the lines, from the shadows and the fence itself. (plus it’s raining after a nice snowy start to the day)

[044/365] – Peaceful Wreckage

Peaceful Wreckage

At night they shine these huge lights on the building that burned a couple of weeks ago. Since there was a snowstorm last night/today I decided to try to take some shots of the building this evening.

I’ve been reading “Within the Frame – The Journey of Photographic Vision” by David duChemin on and off the last couple of days, and it’s inspired me to try to tell more of a story with my photography. In this one I tried to show the destruction that was a result of this fire. I think I captured it well!

[032/365] – Snow Stick

Snow StickWorked from home today, because Merri had an ultrasound appointment to go to at 1:45pm. So I was able to snap a few pictures out in our backyard during my lunch break. I like this one, I’m trying to work on my composition, and with the advice of webmonk on the itookapicture subreddit of reddit.com I realized I need to have more defined subjects, and less “busy” pictures in general. I think this one fits the bill!
