[105/365] – Ethereal Magnolias

Ethereal Magnolias

I took some shots of these magnolias on the way home today. There are these 4 or so magnolia trees in front of the local elementary school that I walk past each day. (At least, I hope they are magnolia trees, otherwise this title is WAY off.)

I started in aperture priority mode, but the stuff was turning out too dark, so I switched it up to manual mode to over expose a bit, so I could get the details of the flowers in front of the dull gray sky. I took a few then got progressively more and more overexposed. I like the effect of the flowers. They look like they are floating in a bright white cloud or something.

[098/365] – Rainy Saturday

Rainy Saturday

I had a good time at my italian tutoring today, except for all the walking through the rain. I was about 30 minutes early for the class, so I spent some time walking around and taking pictures in the old part of the Boston Public Library.

I went out in to the courtyard, which really is quite spectacular. My tutor had talked it up as being one of the best ones in Boston, and I can see why. On a nice day, when the sun is out, and it’s nice and warm, I bet it would be amazing.

This shot was taken at the Malden T as I got ready to brave the rain for my walk home.

[095/365] – First Buds of the season

First Buds of the season

I got out early enough to catch the sun setting in my own town.

Just a quick shot today. Far too much drama in my life.

[071/365] – Boston Skyline from Malden

Boston Skyline from Malden

My parents came by today to see Gianna again, my mother is baby crazy! ;) They were nice enough to bring us some lunch, and buy us a chicken pot pie and some veggies too. Thanks mom!

I have been wanting to take pictures of the Boston skyline from Malden for a while now. From the hill to the side of my house, I have a nice clear view. I set up my tripod and found a few views through the trees, and took a bunch of shots. I couldn’t get any good shots with the Pru in it, but this does have the Zakim bridge in it. That’ll have to do!

I set the f-stop up nice and high, to 32 so I could get nice long exposures. I think it turned out well!

[069/365] – Light and Texture

Light and Texture

I went out for my daily photowalk around 3:30pm today. I walked around for a while, eventually ending up at the park again. Damn the allure of the park. I decided to focus on texture today, so I was down lying on the ground a lot, trying to get nice shots of the cool rocks on the edge of the pond.

Near the end of my walk, when I was kneeling on the ground shooting the texture of the rocks, I saw that cool leaf on the ground, so I placed it in what I consider nice light, with a decent background, and took a bunch of shots. I think, in hindsight, that I should have gone with a shallower depth of field, to help the background blur. Ah well. Next time!
