Snow Globe Santa

I’ve been looking for something around my parents house to put in front of the Christmas tree for my Project365. As we got home from my brothers house tonight, I realized they have a great snow globe of santa sitting on the dining room table. So I grabbed it, set it on the piano chair, set up my camera on my shiny new tripod that I got today :)

I took quite a few long exposure shots, and ended up liking this one the most. My mother was helping me experiment, so during this shot she fired off the flash from her camera from the top left (aiming mostly at the tree) and we got this nice shadow effect. She helped me out immensely! I love the shadows across santa’s beard!

[016/365] – Deering Oaks Park Lights

Deering Oaks Park LightsI went down to the Deering Oaks Park in Portland Maine this evening to take shots of the various Christmas lights they have strung up on the trees. I tried setting my camera to “auto bracket” mode so it would take 3 shots, one at the correct exposure, one below, and one above. I ended up liking a lot of the high exposure shots more than the “correct” exposure. This one isn’t, but I loved the sense of movement in it.

[015/365] – Icey White

Icey White

I went out a couple of times today to take some shots, once during the morning, when the snow was barely falling, and then tonight, after the snow stopped and night had fallen.

The daylight photos were ok, but not anything mindblowing. I really liked this picture, the house was lit up with these white-blue lights that set off nicely the yellow-orange lights from the windows.

[014/365] – Christmas Ornament

Christmas OrnamentMy dad lent me his tripod this evening, so I tried a few long exposure shots of their Christmas tree. After I was done, my father explained to me that my brother uses the timer setting to kick off the shots, instead of by hand. I’ll have to try that tomorrow. Otherwise, I’m happy with this 8 second exposure!

[011/365] – Christmas Lights

Christmas LightsLoong day at work today. Took this on the way home, a neighbors house across from the end of our dead end street. I love the bokeh! I also got to try out my 18-55 lens that came with the camera. Turns out it can take good pictures, who knew! It’s got some pretty bokeh, and I like that! Plus it’s far faster than the 55-200 that I have been trying to use at night. It’s a different experience. I guess that means I’m learning ;)
